Asbestosis and mesothelioma are forms of cancers in the human respiratory system that are widely caused by high asbestos exposure. Asbestos itself is a material used for insulation, fireproof walls, ceilings and roofing. These materials were very wide spread in homes. Today they are still abundant in homes that are older. Because of the illnesses it causes, the use of asbestos has been banned from residential construction, though it is still widely used in special industrial applications. There have been over 100,000 casualties from asbestos exposure to date. Many homes still contain asbestos as this problem had lied undetected for many years. The asbestos in the home should be removed once detected. There are home specialists around that do asbestos removal. The great health risk posed by asbestos warrants immediate removal especially if the material is in a crumbling state as this will form fine dust which could potentially be inhaled and cause cancers in the lungs.
